Major domain registrar Famous Four Media has won two private auctions for two new top level domain names, .racing and .cricket. The company beat its no-less-heavyweight rivals, Donuts, which competed for both domains, Minds + Machines, which fought for .cricket, and Uniregistry, which bid in the auction for .racing. Both sporting and gaming registries eventually ended up under Famous Four Media management.
Although the amounts paid by the winner remain undisclosed, Famous Four is openly showing satisfaction with the auction results, finding both sporting and gaming domains highly attractive investments.
“With over 1.7 million people playing cricket in the UK alone and more than 100 member countries belonging to the International Cricket Council, the sport has significant global reach. When India’s national side plays a big game, an estimated 400m in India watch on television,” said Andy Churley, Chief Marketing Officer at Famous Four Media. “That passion is rivaled by the racing fraternity whether it’s horses, cars, dogs, boats, planes, bikes or on foot. If you are involved in, a fan of, or associated with racing in any of its forms, you will find a home online in .racing.”
