TLD Registry has reported the first-day figures of the new Chinese domain name registration hours after the 13:00 UTC general availability. The new gTLDs mainly target Chinese users. On Tuesday, .在线 (“.online”) and .中文网 (“.chinesewebsite”) reached 33,012 names and 17,537 names, respectively.
The new Chinese domains have thus made a serious claim for leadership in the number of registrations among all new gTLDs. As of today, the .guru gTLD has the biggest number of names (around 52,500) after several months of general availability. However, the .在线 domain indeed broke the record of first-day registrations set by .berlin with 31,645 new names.
It should also be noted that the impressive results shown by the Chinese domains also include the previously made registrations (priority and premium registrations) as well as the Chinese government’s registry-reserved names.
