“ICANN49 will be remembered as a meeting that, in many ways, represented the end of the early phase of ICANN and brought the organization into a new phase of maturity and responsibility,” Fadi Chehadé said in his closing remarks at the 49th ICANN conference that concluded in Singapore on Friday.
According to Chehadé, the decision of the US government to step down as domain name regulator beginning 2015 exemplifies the recognition of the Internet community’s maturity and its readiness to determine the future development of the global network. Dr. Stephen Crocker, ICANN's Board Chair, said that the conference brought together almost 2,000 participants from 150 countries. “People from all over the world, from all segments of the Internet community are here, interacting not just with ICANN, but with each other as well,” he said.
Director of the Coordination Center for TLD RU Andrei Kolesnikov spoke about the Netoscope project and its role in protecting the Russian domain space against malicious activity.
