The UK-based organization One World Trust (OWT) has presented its report on the transparency and accountability of the ICANN corporation, developed at the request of ICANN. OWT is an expert in this kind of survey and supports reforms for improved management of international organizations.
The OWT experts assessed ICANN’s activity on the basis of its operation, interviews with key staff of the corporation and representatives of all parties that ICANN represents. Generally, the company was highly regarded by OWT in comparison with a number of similar international organizations. Also, assessment criteria were developed to evaluate ICANN’s activity. OWT covers six general areas in which an organization must be assessed and improved. They include accountability strategy, transparency, participation, responsiveness of the executive body, evaluation and learning, and complaints and response.
The recommendations offered by OWT were published on ICANN’s website. They will also be discussed during the upcoming ICANN conference in Singapore. The discussion will generate decisions aimed at improving the accountability and transparency of ICANN, which must be beneficial for the equal and efficient management of the global network.
