Afnic, the .fr registry, has shared its 2013 results. The registry reports decreasing growth in terms of domain name numbers.
The experts attribute this to two major factors: first, the economy growth is also decreasing globally, and second, the Internet users' preferences have changed as mobile devices and social networks became more popular. Notwithstanding these factors, .fr grew by 8.2% in 2013, which is ahead of the global TLD growth rate (7.1%). It is worth noting that in France, .com has grown only by 5.6%, which allowed .fr to occupy a 36.5% market share. Also, the report notes slow, but steady, growth rate of the DNSSEC-enabled domains share, with 3.79 domains using the security protocol by the end of 2013.
