10 more new gTLDs are going to join the DNS root zone very soon. ICANN announced signing contracts with their administrators. Among them there is a new Cyrillic domain - .рус. Its administrator “Russian names” plans that launching of the domain will help “expand the Russian-speaking Internet address space in the interests of global Russian-speaking Internet-community.” Registration of domains in the .рус zone will start in the beginning of 2014.
Welcoming the domain .рус, director of the Coordination Center for TLD RU Andrei Kolesnikov pointed out: “It is supported by representatives of Russian-speaking communities abroad, domain will help millions of Russians and Russian-speaking users all over the World create their own virtual space in their mother tongue to overcome the lack of communication, to find like-minded people.”
ICANN also signed contracts with administrators of new gTLDs: .bar, .pub, .fish, .actor, .caravan, .saarland, .yokohama, .ren, and .eus.
