ICANN Corporation declared on the new general top-level domains (gTLD) applications preliminary evaluation stage finish. 1745 out of 1930 applications have gone through the preliminary evaluation stage. 121 applications have been declined, the other 32 applications are still to go through the additional evaluation process.
“That is a really important landmark, which marks the new top-level domains program progress, - remarks Akram Atalla, Head of ICANN general top-level domains department. - We are impatiently waiting for the innovations which will bring new domains into Internet development”.
“The procedure of the preliminary evaluation was extremely strict and complicated, - Kristin Willet, executive Vice-President gTLD direction, outlined in her turn. - And we think it as next evident success that we managed to overpass 90% of the provided applications”.
The further ways of those passed the preliminary evaluation go in different directions. Part of them can directly be submitted to domain delegation. Others will have to pass procedures of disputes settlements and checking the string for similarity.
