ICANN’s Committee for new top-level domains (NGPC) took a resolution on its meeting which forbids using the so-called “domain without dots”. What’s meant here is top-level domains which consist of one tal (e.g.http://example).
In its decision NGPC was ruled by the data of three different research of the possible consequences of domains without dots delegating. These research, published in the period of February, 2012 - July, 2013, showed that the appearance of such domains can become a source of serious Internet stability and safety risks. Also NGPC took into account the negative reaction of the Internet community on the domains without dots appearance perspective, which was shown in a large number of comments.
According to NGPC resolution, the Committee thinks that threats on Internet stability and safety because of the domains without dots possible appearance are proven. By reference to this resolution ICANN is not planning to return to studying and considering the problem of domains without dots.
