As of today, August, 22, Government Bodies sites started being registered in the cyrillic domain .УКР. The first domain name entered in the new cyrillic domain became ПРЕЗИДЕНТ.УКР (PRESIDENT.UKR).
The period of priority registration in the .УКР domain will last four months. During the first month government bodies will get new domain names, then there will be a turn of self-governing authorities, trade marks owners, companies names, geographical names etc. In the end of 2013 anyone willing will get the possibility of registering a personal domain name. According to the .УКР domain regulations, the domain names can be registered both in Ukranian and Russian language. The registration will supposedly cost 250 UAH. The administrator of the domain is the Ukranian Network Information Center.
“We congratulate our Ukranian collegues with this wonderful event - the beginning of national cyrillic domain work! 5 cyrillic top-level domains have already been delegated, and cyrillic language is the second popular non-latin alphabet among IDN-domains, of course, after Arabian. The whole amount of the registered domain names in cyrillic language is getting close to a million. The appearance of a new domain using cyrillic language positively influence the development of the world domain space and, I hope, will help to fasten problem solving with separate services for IDN-domains such as e-mail”, - Andrey Kolesnikov, CEO of Coordination Center for TLD RU, said.
We remind you that the Ukranian domain .УКР has become the fourth cyrillic top-level domain, functioning in the Net: together with Russian .РФ, Serbian .СРБ and Kazakh .ҚАЗ domains. In May, 2013 a cyrillic domain of Mongolia was also successfully delegated, but the registration of domain names in .МОН domain has not yet started.
