Domain name CreativeCitigroup.com’s future will be decided by court

Creative CitiGroup Inc. went to court in attempt to keep domain name CreativeCitigroup.com to itself. The organization demands for the cancellation of the decision of the National Arbitration Forum, which passed the domain name to the managing of Citigroup Financial Corporation.

The main working profile of Creative CitiGroup Inc is trade exhibitions organization. The company registered its domain name in 2008 and four years later the domain name cought the eye of Citigroup banking giant, which probably considered the domain name a cybersquatting case. As a result the Financial Corporation appealed to the National Arbitration Court. Interestingly, Creative CitiGroup Inc. simply ignored the hearing of the case in the frames of a Uniform Domain-Name Dispute Policy (UDRP) and didn’t provide any documents necessary for the conflict solving. As a result the National Arbitration Forum took the decision of passing the domain name to Citigroup.

That is the decision Creative CitiGroup Inc. is trying to challenge. Moreover, in its statements of case the company is also trying to levy a penalty against the offenders for “stealing the domain name”. The experts have doubts in the case perspectives: they note that the name Citigroup shouldn’t have been used in the name in the very beginning because it coincides with the name of the largest financial corporation. It’s worth noting that in WHOIS registration data the original registry of the domain name is recorded as Creative CityGroup - with y, not i - so it’s unclear whatever prevented the company from registering the domain name as CreativeCityGroup.com which was available for registering both in 2008 and now.
