A whole row of Internet-market large players suffered of a cyber attack. Domain google.co.ke which belongs to Google Internet Corporation redirected users to a site which showed a sign “hacked” on a black screen. DNS-spuffing also touched upon domain names of Microsoft, Dell, HP, “Kaspersy Laboratory”, Linkedin, Bing, YouTube and other large organizations.
While the spuffing the intruder most probably got the access to the DNS-server and redirected the incoming traffic to his own site. Thus the domain names themselves were not stolen: the aim of the attack was the DNS-server of the hosting services provider.
Google declared that its services had not been hacked. “Google services in Kenya have not been hacked, - Google representatives said. - For a while some users who visited www.google.co.ke and some other domains have been redirected to another website. At the moment we are clarifying the problem with the organization responsible for Kenya domain names managing”.
The hacker responsible for the Kenya domain names cyberattack is supposedly responsible for the same attacks in Bangladesh January and February this year respectively. At the moment all the domain names suffered from the intruder’s actions work in proper manner.
