ICANN declared that the first 27 applications for top-level domains had successfully gone through the stage of initial evaluation. All the approved lines belong to IDN-type domains - domains with national script. There is one domain wich uses latin alphabet and two cyrillic domains among them.
Earlier ICANN declared that applications for IDN-domains would be considered in the first row. Thus “Smart Internet” Fund’s application for cyrillic domain .ДЕТИ is 67th in the line.
First cyrillic domains preliminary approved by ICANN are .сайт and .онлайн. Applications for these domains were issued by CORE Association (“Domain Names Registrars Council”). The organization has previously taken part in developing technical protocols for the domain names registration and now supports top-level domains .museum and .cat. Besides applications for cyrillic domains the organization also applied for the domain .بازار («market»). The biggest part of the preliminary approved applications uses Arabic, Chinese and Japanese scripts.
It’s worth mentioning that initial evaluation stage passing doesn’t mean that all the 27 domains will be approved. Thus three applications got “early notice” from the government commettee GAC: this means that further there could be questions to such applications. Four more strings fully or partly match with the domains applied for by other applicants.
In case the application has gone through the stage of the initial evaluation and at that there are no objections against this domain and there are no other applicants for the domain, the applicants can conclude an agreement with ICANN. As ICANN representatives declare, these domain can already be delegated April, 23 2013.
Now ICANN evalute 30 applications per week. Later the corporation is planning to enlarge the limit to 100 applications per week, at that all the evaluation results should be published by the end of August, 2013.
