At the ICANN 47 conference in Durban, South Africa, the Government Advisory Committee has agreed to file an objection to Amazon's .amazon bid. After a consensus objection will be filed, the chances for the Internet corporation to get its TLD are close to zero.
The top-level domain was contested by Brazil and other Latin American countries who claim that Amazon is a geographic region, and, therefore, it is improper to delegate the TLD to a corporation. The GAC objection will be sent to ICANN board of directors this week, urging the board to reject the application.
Earlier, GAC advice killed off .patagonia bid from Patagonia, which withdrew its application after understanding that GAC might come to consensus and object against its bid.
