The Belgian registry, dns.be, now allows registering internationalized domain names in the country's .be ccTLD. The IDN support enables registering domains that contain German, Dutch and French characters.
The registry reported seeing over 6,000 IDN registrations during the first day of the launch; over 3,000 of these were registered in the first hour.
The most popular domains among registrants were café.be, météo.be, hôtels.be, bébé.be, crédit.be, hôtel.be, één.be, italië.be, cinéma.be и château.be. Over 80% of the newly registered IDNs are owned by Belgian citizens, showing the need and strong demand for IDNs on the local markets.
