The sunrise period for .pw has been extended by a week, and will end on February 15. The .pw registry said that the demand for the .pw domains was unexpectably high, so the sunrise phase was extended to allow more time for trademark owners to defensively register their brands.
.PW Registry is owned by Directi and has about 80 accredited registrars listed on its web site; many of these specialize in brand protections, while GoDaddy is not yet among these.
Palau's .pw is making its way towards a more 'generic' ccTLD attitude, marketing the domain as an acronym to “Professional Web”, while the registrants can enjoy more relaxed policies with no restrictions like in .pro, another professionals-oriented domain.
In a new gTLD program, Directi has applied for over 30 new gTLDs; almost all of these are contested.
