Verisign to increase .name domain prices

Verisign will increase the price of a domain name in .name top-level domain by 10%. The maximum registry fee will be capped at $6.60 starting August 2013.

The company signed the registry contract in 2007, and the fees stood still for more than 5 years: the registry fee was $6. Verisign was able to increase this fee by 10% each year, but never did that before last year's .com contract signing.

The .com contract caused Verisign shares to drop earlier last year as the company lost its right to increase .com registry fees. To compensate for the losses, starting this year, Verisign increases some of the registry fees for its other TLDs – .name and .net are now among these.
