Verisign has announced that it plans to increase fees for second-level domains in .net by 10% in July 2013. Earlier in 2012, Verisign has already seen to the 10% price rise on the same .net domains.
The company currently charges registrars $5.11 for a one-year registration, and with new changes coming into effect July 1, 2013, the price will be raised to $5.62, meaning that the end-user prices for domain registration or renewal could also be increased.
Verisign's contract on .net allows increasing these prices, but the company's recent .com contract renewal left Verisign unable to increase fees for .com domains in next six years. This, in turn, means that the company has to use every available channel to up the revenues, with .net price increase being a step to that direction.
