Sudan's IDN passes string evaluation

ICANN announced that the proposed IDN ccTLD string for Sudan has been successfully evaluated. The top-level domain سودان. ("Sudan") has passed string evaluation phase and is currently awaiting delegation.

In October 2009, the IDN ccTLD fast track process was approved by the ICANN Board at its annual meeting. To qualify for the fast track procedure, an IDN should comply with several requirements, including non-Latin script and the official status of the languages used to express the IDN ccTLD.

Russian Federation (.РФ), as well as Egypt (مصر.), Saudi Arabia (السعودية.), and the United Arab Emirates (امارات.), were among the first to claim their IDN ccTLDs. So far, a total of 31 countries and territories requests have successfully passed through the String Evaluation. Of these, 23 countries and territories (represented by 33 IDN ccTLDs) are delegated in the DNS root zone, with the remainder either readying to apply, or actively applying for delegation of the string.
