The last day of accepting applications for new domains and ICANN’s plans for the future

Those who want to apply for a new gTLD have not so much time left: on May 30 at 23-59 UTC (on May 31 at 03-59 Moscow time) the system of applications acceptance will terminate its work. In the nearest future ICANN will announce the list of domains claimed by applicants and define the priority of applications processing.

At the moment the system contains about 500 applications processed. It accounts for a quarter of the ICANN’s forecast of the total number of applications. We remind that the cost of registration in TAS system makes up USD 5.000. An applicant can make an unlimited number of applications for g TLDs but each application will cost an applicant USD 185. 000. The future ICANN’s plans include the so-called” day of great opening”. On June 13 non –commercial organization will publish a complete list of domains which had been applied for. From June 13 to August 12 the organization will accept comments and formal objections concerning new TLD applications.

It is worth to mention that the priority of processing has not been defined yet and an applicant has to decide on the chance of his application himself in the process of “batching”. The mentioned procedure is as following: an applicant for a domain has to choose definite time and pres the proper button in the system of applications acceptance as close as possible to the time chosen. The preciseness of “hitting” will define the priority of the application in the system: the closer to the defined time the button is pressed by the applicant, the higher the application will rise in the priority list. The “batching will last from June 8 to June 28 and the final list of priorities of applications processing will be published on July 11. On July 12 the organization will start a long process of all received applications assessment.
