ICANN Corp. published the list of new gTLDs applications. As it was announced before it contains only the applications which are subject to a long procedure of reconciliation with ICANN. The total number of applications is 1930. Taking into account the cost of 1 application (USD 185,000) it means that the International organization has received from the applicants about USD 350 mln.
The most popular domains were .app (13 applications), .art (10 applications), .home and .inc (11 applications). Domains .blog, .llc and .book received 9 applications while each of the domains .design, .movie and .music claim 8 applicants. There are 7 applicants for .ltd, .news, .ltd, .news. Applicants claim .baby, .corp, .cpa, .gmbh, .law, .love, .mail, .now, .online, .tech, .vip and .web. However, the majority of applications (1179 applications) make up domains claimed by a single applicant.
Among 1930 applications received by ICANN there are 8 Russian domains. Among them are .ДЕТИ, .МОСКВА, domains .САЙТ, .ОНЛАЙН, .КОМ and .ОРГ. and also two domains presenting the interests of communities .КАТОЛИК and .РУС. Out of all applications for Russian language domains Russian organizations sent 3 claims (.ДЕТИ, .МОСКВА, .РУС). The rest applications belong to organizations based in the USA and Switzerland, and an application for domain .КАТОЛИК is sent from Vatican.
Other applications from Russia include .SKOLKOVO, .GDN, .YANDEX, and also applications for ccTLDs .MOSCOW and .TATAR, presenting the interests of cultural and linguistic community.
Today the period begins when all who are concerned may object to any application. This period will last 7 months. Senior Vice President of ICANN Kurt Pritz announced that the first domains within the framework of ICANN might appear in the Internet already in the first quarter of 2013. Rod Beckstrom President of ICANN pointed out that even if a third of applications out of the whole list were reconciled the Internet space would be 4 times wider.
