Global INET Conference was kicked off in Switzerland. The Conference is devoted to the 20th anniversary of “Internet Society”. The Conference deals with the problems if Internet Governance, laws applicable in the Global Net and also the influence of various factors on the Internet development. Experts of the Coordination Center and “Technical Center of Internet are present at the event, namely Director of the Coordination Center of Internet Andrey Kolesnikov took part in the discussion devoted to legislation and regulation of Internet Space.
Within the framework of the discussion, where the problem of children security in the Internet was discussed, Kolesnikov pointed out that only legislative measures were not sufficient. “Most of my friends have been using the Internet for a long time already. They are paranoic enough about the privacy of information, so do I. However, for the generation that has been using the Internet since early age, the Internet is a major part of their life and they are not concerned wth the privacy, this is worth mentioning- said Andrey Kolesnikov. – All we can do for children in the Internet is to guide and educate them.”
Jimmy Wales, the founder of Wikipedia believes that it is modern children who can become power engine of the Internet –progress. “Children are much more experienced technically than adults and have much wider social connection in the Internet.,” “Teenagers who are 11 now when they are 22 will establish new communities and will be involved in joint projects similar to Wikipedia, but in another environment, for example in video films production.”
Non-profit organization ISOC pursues the tasks to ensure accessibility and development if the Internet. INET conferences under the auspices of ISOC are have been held in different countries for several years. Global anniversary event in Geneva this year gathered key experts from all industries connected with the Internet development. In particular, representatives of key Internet organizations reported at the Conference (ISOC, Wikipedia, Mozilla, Google).
