Leaders of organizations responsible for internet development met in Montevideo

The leaders of organizations responsible for coordination of the Internet technical infrastructure globally have met in Montevideo, Uruguay. Among the meeting attendees were the directors of ICANN, World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), Internet Society (ISOC), Internet Architecture Board (IAB), Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) and the largest regional Network Information Centers.

All the gathered participants acknowledged the important input of Internet into social and economic society development and discussed first task of the further Global network development. The importance of complex, supranational approach to Internet problems solving was outlined on the meeting with equal participation of all interested parties.

The participants of the meeting noted the danger of Internet’s fragmentation which is caused by the attempts of governments of several countries to regulate Global network on the national level. They also expressed concern on the fact that latest disclosures of users surveillance and intrusion in their personal life can cause the reduction of confidence towards Internet. All those gathered called for further ICANN and IANA roles expansion as international coordinating structures of Global network which provide for the equal participation of all the interested parties in Internet development including national governments.

Moreover, the participants confirmed that one of the main Internet development priorities for today is the fastest switch to using IPv6 protocol.
