Presentations by leading global and Russian experts have traditionally been an important component of numerous events hosted by the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ. They allow participants not only to discuss pressing industry issues but also to gain deep technical knowledge, view familiar processes from a new angle, and prepare for future challenges. The TLDCON 2026 program upheld this tradition: the two-day forum was filled with presentations that combined fundamental theory with practical forecasts for the evolution of internet infrastructure.
On the first day of the conference, September 22, 2026, Geoff Huston, the Chief Scientist at the Asia Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC), delivered a highly engaging presentation. In his talk titled “Why Does DNS Remain Slow?” he examined the paradox of the modern network: despite the significant acceleration of web technologies (HTTP/2, TLS, TCP), domain name resolution still causes noticeable delays. The speaker explained that DNS performance depends on many factors — resolver configuration, the use of aliases, the geography of authoritative servers, and TTL settings. The lecture provided participants with a clear understanding of how to optimize these parameters to improve infrastructure efficiency.
The second day began with a forward-looking perspective on security from Alexey Lukatsky (Positive Technologies). In his presentation titled “Who Will Attack National Registries Tomorrow?” the expert demonstrated how artificial intelligence has changed the economics of cyberattacks: information-gathering time has been reduced to minutes, and attackers have gained tools to instantly analyze registrar functions and identify vulnerabilities. Alexey Lukatsky also presented a vision of how the role of registries is evolving: transitioning from managing domains to managing digital trust. Looking ahead, registries may become “trust brokers,” verifying not only website addresses but also cryptographic keys, digital wallets, and AI agents. Such a transformation will require securing new assets “at machine speed.”
The educational program at TLDCON 2026 served as a vital complement to the professional discussions, providing administrators and registrars in the region with the tools needed to understand both current technical challenges and the strategic trends of the next decade.
