On April 27, Cyrillic domain .РФ exceeded the 800,000 mark to reach 800,941 registered names. Since the beginning of 2026, the domain zone has increased by 22,039 names (+2.8 percent).
In 2025, the .РФ domain also showed steady growth: the number of registered domains increased by 2.5 percent to reach 778,902. During the year, 207,654 new domains were registered (an average of 569 domains per day), exceeding the 2024 result (182,351). By the end of 2025, the .РФ domain preserved its status as the largest internationalized domain among country-code top-level domains.
The .РФ domain is operated by 185 registrars and more than 341,000 domain administrators, with the majority of domains registered to individuals (82 percent). Russian entities and individuals have 96.2 percent of the domain names, which confirms the high demand for a Cyrillic domain within the country.
In terms of the number of registrations, Moscow (23 percent ), the Moscow Region (12.8 percent), St. Petersburg (7.4 percent), the Krasnodar Territory (3.3 percent ), and the Sverdlovsk Region (3 percent ) remain the leaders.
Director of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ Andrey Vorobyev noted that the rise in registrations in the .РФ domain stemmed from greater trust of Russian users in national domains, a returning interest among businesses in creating own websites, and more opportunities for using national languages.
“Last year, the .РФ domain got an expanded support for the languages of the peoples of Russia: 26 letters from 18 state languages of the peoples of Russia were added to the list of acceptable characters. It provided a supplementary impetus to the growth of registrations and became an important step in supporting the country’s cultural and language diversity. Regulatory changes also played their part: the law on the Russian language, which came into force on March 1, sparked increased interest among businesses in Cyrillic domains; companies are converting their brand names and trademarks into Cyrillic and registering them in the .РФ domain,” said Andrey Vorobyev.
To remind you, the .РФ domain was delegated to Russia by ICANN on May 12, 2010, to become the first Cyrillic domain in the world. Open Cyrillic domain names registration began on November 11, 2010. More than 240,000 domains were registered in a day, and almost 700,000 in the first month.
