The Russian Working Group on Universal Acceptance, which includes experts of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ domains, has summed up the work for 2021 and published its annual report. In 2021, the Working Group carried out its activities in four main areas:
- technical cooperation on the implementation of Universal Acceptance;
- increasing the knowledge level on the subject of Universal Acceptance;
- interaction with government authorities;
- organizational support for the group's activities.
Over the past year, the members of the Working Group have done a lot. Recommendations on the Implementation of Support for Domain Names and E-Mail Addresses Using Cyrillic Characters for software developers were developed and published.
The Working Group has also prepared Proposals to Include Requirements for The Support of Domain Names and E-Mail Addresses with Cyrillic Characters in Contract and Tender Documentation for the Purchase and Development of Software for State and Municipal Needs. The document contains draft language for inclusion in the set of contract and tender documentation for the purchase or development of software for state and municipal needs.
The members of the Working Group made it possible to obtain test Cyrillic e-mail addresses in the .РФ domain to organize the verification of the developed software for compliance with the Universal Acceptance criteria for IDNs and e-mail addresses.
Members of the Working Group, in cooperation with experts of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ, conducted a large study of the support of Cyrillic e-mail addresses by socially significant information resources in the Russian Federation. The Report on the results of the study is published on the Coordination Center’s website.
In addition, in 2021, the working group made its official website - универсальноепринятие.рф, where everyone can get information about the Working Group and the documents it develops, as well as apply to join the group.
The Russian Working Group on Universal Acceptance was established in 2020 to assist in the implementation of technical standards in the field of internationalized domain names (IDN) and email addresses (EAI) and the implementation of the concept of Universal Acceptance, as well as to raise level of awareness among all stakeholders. The members of the Working Group are representatives of Russian organizations, as well as independent experts interested in improving the level of technical support for internationalized domain names and email addresses in all applications, systems and services in Russia.
