Trademark check service gets new functions

In June 2019, the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ launched a service on its website that automatically checks whether there are any domain names in .RU and .РФ that match registered trademarks. It caters to trademark owners and helps them find domains containing their respective trademarks. The service was developed together with the company that invented the Online Patent digital platform for managing patents and trademarks. Since then, the service has become popular with trademark owners and users planning to register new top-level domains in .RU and .PФ.

The search engine has continued to develop, with the Coordination Center and Online Patent creating a new version of the service for verifying domains and trademarks. The upgraded service with new functions is now available at https://cctld.ru/service/trademark/. From now on, a search involving trademarks shows all .RU and .PФ domain names that fully match a trademark’s verbal component, minus the.RU and .PФ characters, as well as those that contain additional characters before or after a trademark’s verbal component. Each query is transliterated, and the service searches for both versions. Substantial query results are listed on several pages.

“Developed by us and our partners, this trademark check tool has won a reputation for itself and proved its efficiency. Additional functions will make it more convenient for our users and will provide them with extra opportunities to protect their rights and prevent domain disputes. We will continue to upgrade our service, so as to expose potential copyright violations as soon as possible. This will help avoid most courtroom battles,” Svetlana Lobanova, project manager at the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ, noted.
