Meeting of the Intellectual Rights Court’s Research Advisory Council

Last week, a meeting of the Intellectual Rights Court’s Research Advisory Council took place. The meeting was held in conjunction with the Russian School of Private Law. Sergei Kopylov, Deputy Director for Legal Issues of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ, was among the participants.

The meeting was held online and focused on debatable issues related to the free use of intellectual activity and branding tools. The participants discussed case studies from the Intellectual Rights Court’s practice.

The case studies included recovering compensation for the unlawful use of photographs posted by a plaintiff on their website, the illegal use of an image of a sculpture in souvenir products sold by a retail chain, using a trademark in a film, and the public performance of music.

“It is very important for experts to share their opinion in this format to develop a unified approach to addressing similar cases and hence establishing unified legal guidelines,” Sergei Kopylov said following the meeting.
