American insurance company SageSure has filed a lawsuit in the US District Court for the District of Connecticut against the parties behind the registration and use of the domain name SageSure.io. SageSure is a major insurer operating in disaster-prone states. It uses the domain SageSure.com for its website and aims to prove that the registration of its name as a domain in the ccTLD for the British Indian Ocean Territory constitutes a gross violation of its rights.
According to Domain Name Wire, SageSure.io was registered in November 2025 by MapleSage. The domain hosts a website offering “AI-powered insurance operations from quote to claim.” MapleSage appears to be active in the insurance and retail sectors.
SageSure emphasizes that it sent MapleSage several notices prior to filing the lawsuit but received no response. The lawsuit brings six counts, including federal trademark infringement, brand counterfeiting, and cybersquatting. The company could have filed a domain dispute: the .IO domain has a Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy that is largely similar to the UDRP. However, SageSure has opted for a more aggressive approach: it is seeking both an injunction barring further use of the brand and monetary damages.
