Identity Digital acquires another dormant domain

Domain Incite reports that the registry operator for the new generic top-level domain .SAFETY has officially changed in the records of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers. During the previous round of the New gTLD Program, management rights to the domain were delegated to W W Grainger, and the domain was added to the DNS root zone in late December 2015.

W W Grainger is a major supplier of industrial and workplace safety equipment, so the selection of the .SAFETY domain can be regarded as strategically aligned with its business profile. The company had intended to operate it as a closed brand domain. However, over the course of more than a decade, no registrations were made under the extension beyond the minimal requirements stipulated in its agreement with ICANN. The company’s limited engagement with the domain was further reflected in the registry website itself, which contained a significant grammatical error that remained uncorrected for nearly ten years.

The new registry operator is Jolly Host, a company operating within Identity Digital. The transaction therefore represents a transfer of registry management rights for the .SAFETY domain. No details of the agreement have yet been disclosed, and there is currently no public information regarding how the new operator intends to utilize the domain going forward. Notably, this is the fifth domain registry acquired by Identity Digital since the beginning of the year. The company had previously obtained management rights to the .ONL domain from iRegistry, as well as the .CIRCLE, .GOT, and .JOT domains from Amazon.
