French president files UDRP against domains with his name

The domain market’s players, major companies and show business celebrities are coming to understand the importance of domain names.  A clear example is a UDRP (Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy) complaint filed by President of FranceEmmanuel Macron to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in early January 2022. In fact, he has filed four complaints against EmmanuelMacron.com, Macron2022.com, EmmanuelMacron2022.com and Emmanuel-Macron.com, according to Domain Investing.

Judging by the separate filings, it appears that different registrants own each domain name. No active websites have been set up in these domains, and the EmmanuelMacron2022.com landing page alone shows some pay per click links unrelated to French politics. Experts will find it hard to prove any malicious intent. On the other hand, the domains use the French president’s name. It will therefore be very interesting to follow these UDRP cases and to find out the final WIPO ruling.
