Germany’s TLD hits 17 million names

Two registries managing German and Canadian top-level national domains have almost simultaneously published important updates on their work, according to Domain Name Wire. The non-profit organization DENIC managing Germany’s .DE ccTLD notes that 17 million domain names have been registered to date. The 17 millionth name, melba-stoffkreation.de., was registered on July 13 by Melanie Baumgardt who owns a workshop that manufactures custom-made gifts and souvenirs. The German TLD hit the 16 million domain milestone in 2015.

The non-profit organization Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) has reported on the .CA national domain’s performance in the first quarter of 2021. As of late March, the TLD had 3,106,723 names. In the first three months of 2021, the domain zone grew by an average of one percent, compared to 0.35 percent in the same period of 2020. According to the report, active registered domain names account for 32 percent, and an additional 17 percent are used for redirection purposes. As for content management systems, over 50 percent of the .CA domain zone’s websites use Word Press.
