UK registrants’ domains completely withdrawn from .EU

On June 30, the deadline expired during which British registrants of names in the merged ccTLD of the European Union .EU could retain their domain names. To do this, it was necessary either to re-register the domain to an individual or legal entity registered in one of the EU countries, or to provide evidence that the domain is owned by a citizen of one of these countries living in the UK.

Domains that had not gone through these procedures earlier were suspended on January 1, 2021. Now EURid that manages the .EU domain zone has changed their status to "withdrawn." They were disconnected from the network and no longer appear in the statistics of registrar companies. However, this is not the end quite yet, according to Domain Incite, referring to EURid representatives. The withdrawn domain names will become available for new registrations only early next year. Until that moment, their registrants still have a chance to get them back. However, they will need to apply with a letter to the registry, presenting the evidence already mentioned. The deadline is December 31.
