Global Domain Report for 2020 published

Sedo, a domain marketplace, and InterNetX, a major registrar and hosting provider, published their joint Global Domain Report for the past year. The report’s 76 pages are full of extremely useful information for analysts and investors. It is impossible to recount all the details in a short article, but here are just a few aspects that may be of great interest.

The number of domain name registrations increased by 3% on the previous year. The aggregate cost of the 100 largest public domain sales of the year came to $14,600,298. At the same time, the average transaction price on Sedo slightly decreased compared to 2019, but the number of transactions increased.

Country-code domain zones make up 34% of the global domain market. However, in European countries this figure was almost twice as high, reaching 68%. Germany’s .DE remains the most popular European ccTLD, with about 16.72 million registered names. But judging by the number of registered domain names in ccTLDs per 100,000 inhabitants, the Netherlands is the leader. There are 35,309 domains in .NL per 100,000 inhabitants.
