SIDN non-profit organization, which is a registry of the Netherlands’ ccTLD .NL, reported an important achievement: the number of registered domain names in the zone reached 6 million. According to SIDN, deyogiclub.nl registered on June 18 became the anniversary name. Domain Incite noted that since the beginning of this year, there have been 100,000 new registrations in .NL, including 80,000 of them in Q2.
This should not be surprising, given the fact that the lockdown restrictions caused by the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic (which occurred in most countries in Q2) became a powerful incentive for growing internet activity – primarily, of small and medium-sized businesses. SIDN also confirmed this pointing out in its statement that: “The number of registrations rose so rapidly during the corona crisis in recent months that the six million .NL domain registrations were reached much earlier than expected on the basis of the growth development.”
