The number of self-terminating dot-brands reaches 53

The ICANN corporation has received another request to terminate the contract to run a dot-brand. This domain is .EVERBANK, which was delegated by the American bank of the same name in late 2014. In the vast majority of cases, companies terminate their domains due to a lack of interest and they never even start using them. The situation with .EVERBANK is different: the domain was active and at least two names, about.everbank and commercial.everbank, were used for the bank’s website.

Two years ago, the bank was acquired by the Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association (TIAA), a multi-profile American financial organization. Less than a year ago, TIAA rebranded and changed the name of the bank to TIAA Bank. Thus, the EverBank brand simply ceased to exist. According to Domain Incite, .EVERBANK is the 53rd delegated dot-brand whose registry contract was terminated.
